Transitions

We've started the slow migration from formula to solids. Following our next grocery store trip, Zach will be moving beyond rice cereal. Gerber here we come.

Tired of crouching to feed cereal in his bouncy seat every night, Melissa put together the high chair. It is now a fixture in our kitchen.

We are well into the "How can I grab that? / How can I get it in my mouth?" phase. No signs of any teeth cutting in yet though.

In case you haven't figured it out, Zach is feeling much better.

New Tricks

Zach picked up a couple of new tricks over the past week or so.

He's started to sit up on his own.

He's discovered his feet and now plays with them whenever he is on his back.

He's become seriously ticklish. (Make sure your sound is on.)

Happy Easter

We were out at Grandma and Grandpa's for the holiday. We had to run out of Easter mass early, but that was because mass was already over an hour when we left. Other than that the Z man was in top form.

Fashion Faux Pa

Melissa wanted me to post this. When I had Zach home sick last week, I dressed him awkwardly one day. Melissa commented on it in under 5 minutes.

"Did they look in his ears?"

Sometime Sunday afternoon Zach's fever broke. He started felling better, as you can clearly see in the pictures below. We still had to see the pediatrician for a follow up visit.

The checkup went fine until the doctor looked in Zach's ears. He did a double take and then asked "Did they look in his ears?". The ER doctors apparently failed to notice ear infections in not one but both of Zach's ears. This on top of every other affliction the poor child has.

So we went home with another prescription and Zach has hardly been comfortable since. Hopefully, the antibiotics kick in soon. I want the smiley kid back.

One Weekend, Two ER Trips

Zach had a runny nose that started around when he started day care. Shortly after receiving his second set of immunizations Thursday, he popped a fever. By Saturday morning, the fever was still going and and his congestion was sounding worse. This lead us to our first ER visit of the weekend.

They did a chest X-ray to check for pneumonia and also collected mucous to check for RSV and influenza. All of which (thankfully) came back negative. Based on his temperament, we were sent home with instructions to pump fluids and keep a close eye on him.

Saturday was a rough day. The Tylenol, which kept the fever in check, would wear off an hour before Zach could have another dose. After enduring 24 hours of this and seeing little progress, we took our second trip to the ER early Sunday morning.

This time Zach was diagnosed with croup/upper respiratory infection. He got a nebulizer treatment and a prescription and we were sent home. During the day Sunday, the fever broke. By Sunday night, the worst appeared to be over.

Mom's Pillow

Zach popped a fever Thursday night and I stayed home with him Friday. While I was cleaning up a bit, I left Zach lying on his mom's pillow. He promptly fell into a restful sleep.

As you can see from the pictures, he was a little man asleep in a large bed.

What's New Pussycat

Zach and Izzy have been increasingly curious about each other. Zach now follows Izzy across the room whenever he sees him. And Izzy has been spotted sniffing Zach more and more often.

The scene below, with Zach clearly sizing up Izzy, is a common occurrence.

v2.0

Mom got us these shirts for my birthday last year. We figured we should get pictures with them on before Zach outgrows his.

Standing Man

When he is feeling better Zach has taken to showing off how well he can stand.

Zach spent last weekend sick

Zach ended his first week of day care with a fever. He slept it off all weekend and just had a bit of a stuffy nose by the time Monday rolled around.
